Fortnite’s new island has already changed, just in time for Halloween

Earlier this month, the entire Fortnite island was sucked into a black hole and replaced with a brand-new location, erasing two years’ worth of history in the process. Just a few weeks later, though, the new Fortnite island is already starting to change. Things are getting spooky.

The battle royale game has been updated for Halloween with an event developer Epic calls “Fortnitemares.” Once again, parts of the map have become overrun with hordes of undead. This time, though, the monsters are spawning from a very specific location. A small island at the center of the Fortnite map is now dubbed the Isle of the Storm, and it’s covered with giant purple crystals. Each has writhing tentacles, which will produce zombies until you destroy them....

While we did not say it directly at the time, we were dismayed that the Times partially yielded to the targeted harassment of an incoming reporter by accusing her of “serving to feed the vitriol” of online discourse.
